Video: Watch as our co-op student Ryan tries Canada's only track zipline

Urban Air Adventure Park recently unveiled its new ride, the Sky Rider

Sudbury.com co-operative education student Ryan Marcotte’s placement has come to an end. But before we bid him farewell and send him back to Lasalle Secondary School, we decided to let him spread his wings (so to speak) on Urban Air’s new Sky Rider.

Urban Air Adventure Park on Lasalle Boulevard in Sudbury has unveiled Canada's first indoor zipline ride — the Sky Rider — and I was lucky enough to get a chance to test it out recently.

The Sky Rider is a track zipline ride, meaning that unlike typical zipline rides, the Sky Rider features highspeed twists and turns. Although the 20-foot height and 40 km/h speed may seem intimidating, co-owner Tyler Arseneau said when you get strapped into the harness and overlooking the jump zone, you have nothing to fear as the Urban Air staff is there to help.

"We try to encourage people to try it,” Arseneau said.  “It's fun and some people have even overcome their fear of heights by doing some of the stuff in our park.

"Our staff are really good at making sure you feel comfortable, and if you’re not, we'll get you out of there as quickly as we can."

When riding the Sky Rider, the rider’s safety is the No. 1 priority and there are a few things you can do to ensure your safety.

"We would just ask that people obey the court monitors as they have been trained tremendously and are in charge of your safety on the ride, and to be aware and obey the signage," said Arseneau. "That essentially goes for everything. Sky Rider is one of those rides that isn't ability based, there's no human error involved, so Sky Rider is one of the safer rides inside."

Once you have been geared up Arseneau would also like riders to know not to play with the harness or adjust any of the buckles as they are there to protect you on the ride and keep you safe.

Although it may seem like a children only zone, parents and adults of all ages are always welcome at Urban Air.

The park is open Monday to Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays from noon to 11 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
