Students from Rainbow District School Board’s Aboriginal Youth Leadership Group will produce public service announcements to highlight the issue of poverty from Oct. 29-Nov. 1.

The workshop, being presented by Redcloud Studios Inc., is designed to engage youth in dialogue and use video to address issues affecting youth and the community, stated a press release from the school board.

Students will create, write and produce eight public service announcements.

Students will showcase their productions on Nov. 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the council chambers at Tom Davies Square. The screenings will be followed by a question and answer session.

The public service announcements will be shared by youth within their own communities and classrooms as a tool to engage other youth and start a dialogue.

The Aboriginal Youth Leadership Group has been together for the last three years, and is designed to give students a voice and to help develop skills to lead projects and activities in their schools and/or their communities.

The workshop is being led by Jennifer Podemski, CEO of Redcloud Studios Inc., and her team of mentors, including award winning hip hop artist Plex and actor Sarah Podemski (Cashing In, Manson, Moccasin Flats).
