WATCH: Multi-city protest held to support Laurentian

Scholars Strike Canada staging multi-city demonstration in support of Laurentian University

Faculty, students, staff and other members of the Laurentian University community, as well as there supporters, will join a Rally on Wheels (cars, bikes, scooters) in five cities across Ontario this morning on behalf of the Sudbury university.

Organized by Scholar Strike Canada, the rally aims to protest what it said is the failure of the Ford government to provide emergency funding to Laurentian University or to stop the use of the CCAA at Laurentian.

“Help us to send a strong message to governments across Canada and university administrators everywhere that university communities will not accept what is happening at Laurentian and are joining together within and across campuses to fight ongoing attacks on our universities and our communities,” said Scholar Strike Canada on its website.

The Rally on Wheels is for “all those angered by the recent decision to eliminate half of Laurentian University's academic programs and fire one-third of Laurentian's faculty and 41 of its staff.”

The Rally on Wheels gets underway at 11 a.m. Participants are expected to make their way to Laurentian University to lay flowers and cards at the university sign.
