Well-known Nickel City car dealership owner has died

The scion of a pioneer Italian-Canadian family, Ronald (Ron) Scagnetti, died peacefully Dec. 10 at his home. He was 80 years old.

Scagnetti was a well-known and respected businessman. He owned and operated car dealerships in Sudbury for more than 60 years. 

The Scagnetti family celebrated 100 years in business in the Sudbury region this year. Scagnetti’s father, Benjamino, moved to Canada from northeast Italy in 1916. He operated a general store and other businesses in Garson for many years and was influential in the development of that community. 

Scagnetti was one of nine children. He and his brother Benjamin became partners in Mid North Motors in 1974.

The husband of Helene Rouleau, Scagnetti is survived by his children Lynn, Randy, Ron Jr., Liana, and Chris; stepchildren Robert and Lise; grandchildren Marissa, Jennifer, Tyler and Kyle, and and step-grandchildren Nicolas, Michael, Marcus, Stephanie, Sachelle, Shane and great step-grandson Tyson; sisters Mafalda "Folly" and Lillian, and brother Ben. He is predeceased by his parents, Benjamino and Christina, and siblings Diane, Galdino, Argie, Inez and Fermilio.

Scagnetti is resting at Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home. Friends may call between 4 and 8 p.m. Thursday. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, 1887 Bancroft Dr., on Dec. 16 at 11 a.m.
