What is a 'Category A' art museum? Find out next week

Public information session next week at Art Gallery of Sudbury

The Art Gallery of Sudbury will present, “Everything you wanted to know about building a ‘Category A’ art museum but were afraid to ask,” next week. 

This educational session will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 17 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 pm. 

This session for members, interested professionals and members of the public will help the Art Gallery of Sudbury define the terms “purpose-build”, “art museum”, the designation of “Category A” art museum, as well as what these ideas could mean with respect to Greater Sudbury’s new public art gallery-to-be.

Confirmed guest speakers include: Alexandra Badzak, Director & CEO, Ottawa Art Gallery, Ottawa, Lisa Daniels, BFA, MA, Curator|Director, Judith & Norman ALIX Art Gallery, Sarnia and Simon Lambert, Preservation Development Advisor, Canadian Conservation Institute, Department of Canadian Heritage with the Government of Canada.

There will also be an update on the Art Gallery of Sudbury’s progress in the campaign to purpose-build a “Category A” Art Museum for the City of Greater Sudbury and beyond.

Each presentation will last about 30 minutes including a question and answer period. Admission is by donation. There will be coffee, tea and light refreshments served.
