Ward 8 CAN Outdoor Holiday Decor Contest
Dec. 31 entry deadline
The Ward 8 Community Action Network (CAN) is excited to be rolling out its third Outdoor Holiday Décor Contest. Until Dec. 31 at 11:59 p.m., residents living in Ward 8 can post their outdoor display photos to Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter using #FestiveWard8 to win some great prizes. All participants will be entered into a draw to win one of two $100 Gift Cards from Ward 8 businesses, including Giant Tiger and Pizzeria Roma. Family movie Sundays at Sudbury Indie Cinema
Starting Jan. 9
Carrefour francophone and Sudbury Indie Cinema are presenting a new series of children’s films in French, to be presented on Sundays. In January, you can catch "Le grand méchant renard" at Sudbury Indie Cinema Sunday, Jan. 9 and Sunday, Jan. 23, at 1 p.m. both dates. Buy tickets here.
Virtual kindergarten information nights (Rainbow board)
Jan. 11 and 13
Rainbow schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin will host virtual Kindergarten Information Nights for students starting school this fall. All parents/guardians and their children are invited to join schools online. Presentations will be available on school websites at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11 for the English Program and Thursday, Jan. 13 for the French Immersion Program. Schools offering English and French Immersion will post their presentations Jan. 13. Staff will be available by phone, email or Google Meet to answer questions. Virtual secondary school information nights (Rainbow board)

Take part in virtual secondary school information nights at Chelmsford Valley District Composite School at 6 p.m. Jan. 11 (visit cvdcs.rainbowschools.ca), Sudbury Secondary School 6:30 p.m. Jan. 13 (visit sudburysecondary.net) and Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 (visit loellen.rainbowschools.ca).
Sudbury German Language School
Starts Jan. 15
The 14-week winter semester starts Jan. 15. Saturdays 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Offered online via Zoom. The cost for the semester is $125 and includes all course materials. Beginner and intermediate language classes in a relaxed conversational atmosphere. Register online here.
Good Neighbours Award nominations

Sudbury MPP Jamie West would like to recognize notable Sudburians. The "Good Neighbours Award" is reserved for individuals or groups within the riding of Sudbury, from all fields of endeavour and backgrounds, whose excellence exemplifies the selflessness, tenacity and commitment of our community. Nouveau Louvre

The GNO is back with its long-awaited annual event, the Nouveau Louvre, a trippy Christmas art sale. Submitted works displayed on the GNO's virtual boutique. All artwork will be sold for $200. Profits will be shared between the artist and the GNO. The artist will receive $125, and the GNO $75. The sale will continue until Jan. 29, 2022.
Cambrian College Foundation fundraising raffle
Draw to be held Feb. 6
Get your tickets for the Cambrian College Foundation’s raffle of gorgeous live edge dining room table. Table was hand-crafted and donated by retired skilled trades professor Robbie Duncan. Family Saturdays at Place des Arts
Starting Feb. 12
Carrefour francophone, Salon du livre du Grand Sudbury and Theatre du Nouvel-Ontario have partnered to put on a series of fun Saturday morning activities at the new Place des Arts venue downtown for local families. The events are geared to kids aged 5-10 years old, although the age limit is flexible to accommodate families. The first event is a science workshop with Pierre Harrison of PlayLearnThink, which runs Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to noon. Pay-what-you-can ticket policy. Buy tickets here.
