Easter is the second-busiest time of the year for retailers. Saturday promises to be an exceptionally busy shopping, as virtually everything shuts down Good Friday and Easter Sunday, the most sacred religious holidays of the Christian calendar.

All malls, government offices, banks, beer stores, LCBO outlets and large retail outlets will be closed March 29, Good Friday. All of the above will be closed again Sunday.

All government offices, including everything at Tom Davies Square, the downtown federal building and the Sudbury Courthouse, will be closed for business on Monday as well as employees get an extra long Easter holiday weekend.

All bank branches which regularly open on Saturdays will be closed this Saturday and will resume regular banking hours Monday.

Malls, beer stores, LCBO outlets and large retail outlets are open during regular business hours Saturday and will return to regular business hours Monday.

Northern Breweries retail outlet on Lorne Street, which is allowed to remain open on certain statutory holidays, will be closed Good Friday and Easter Sunday, but will offer regular Saturday hours from 9 am to 11 pm and will resume regular business hours Monday.

There will be no garbage collection and landfill sites are closed on Good Friday. Garbage collection normally scheduled for Fridays across the City of Greater Sudbury will be moved to Saturday. Blue box recycling services are not affected by the Good Friday holiday. Garbage and recycling collection services will follow normal schedules on Monday, April 1.

On all Canadian statutory holidays, certain businesses are allowed under law to remain open for business. They include flower shops, small convenience stores, small pharmacies, video stores and movie theatres. Consumers should phone ahead.

Good Friday and Easter Sunday are busy days for restaurants. If you are planning on dining out Friday - fish is a popular choice - call ahead to ensure the restaurant is open. You may also need to make reservations.

Reservations are also recommended for restaurants on Easter Sunday. Many in the city are offering brunch specials.
