While inconvenient, delays this summer at the corner of Lasalle Boulevard and Notre Dame Avenue pale in comparison to summer 2013, when the bulk of construction on the $9 million project was completed. File photo.

According to a news release from the city, traffic was moved Monday to the northbound lanes of Notre Dame and eastbound lanes of Lasalle Boulevard. Most of the work on the $9-million project was completed last year, aside from some curb work and final paving.

“We expect to complete all paving and line painting work by July 18 … weather permitting,” the city said in a release.

And Tony Cecutti, the city's general manager of infrastructure, told city council at a recent meeting that while the late start to spring held things up a little bit, they're still on schedule.

“The plan at the start of the summer was to have the final lift of asphalt finished in July, and it looks like they're on schedule or slightly ahead of schedule,” Cecutti said.

New Sudbury drivers who tried to avoid Lasalle-Notre Dame on Monday by taking Barrydowne Road likely got an unpleasant surprise. The northbound curb lane on Barrydowne -- between the entrance to Shoppers Drug Mart and Sparks Street -- is closed until the weekend, as well. Crews are completing the construction of a new northbound lane between Lasalle and Sparks.

Motorists should expect delays until the work is completed sometime on Friday.
