Young pilot completes cross-country flight

Matthew Gougeon and his Cessna 182 have made it.

The 16-year-old hometown boy has officially landed his amphibious aircraft on the East Coast, after flying it all the way from the West Coast.

The day after he officially touched down on the right side of the country, Gougeon admitted to being exhausted, but took time to tell Northern Life about his flight.

Prior to take-off, Gougeon was concerned he might get a little bored in the sky, flying about eight hours a day.

“It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be,” he said. Flying on average between heights of 4,000 to 8,000 feet gave Gougeon the chance to see the view change beneath him.

“It was cool to see the contrast between different landscapes,” he said. “The Rocky Mountains were really cool.”

Gougeon took on the cross-country challenge in an effort to land his name in the record books — he said at this point, he isn't sure if it will appear, but is working towards it. To read more about his adventures, visit http://crosscanadachallenge.ca.
