Hello, Sudbury.com+ Members and welcome to another work week. Mondays are a friend to no one, but fear not, we’ve all got some holiday time headed our way this month.

Sudbury.com has a busy December.

Naturally, our 12 Days of Kindness campaign is the biggest thing we have going on on Elgin Street this month. New media reporter Heather Green-Oliver has been hard at work for weeks now filming, editing and souring gifts.

She’s been burning the midnight oil to get ready for Dec. 9, when we launch this year’s 12 Days of Kindness series.

We have some great stories to tell this year. Needless to say, it has been a challenge to pull these videos off amidst a pandemic, but Heather and the reporters who staffed cameras to film these (Len Gillis, Arron Pickard and Matt Durnan)  rose to the challenge.

We can’t wait for you to see this year’s 12 Days.

That’s the big news for this month.

We also have a project in the works that is a bit of a gamble, but one we hope will work out because it’s an idea we could grow in the years ahead.

In partnership with the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum & Heritage Centre, Sudbury.com has arranged for Santa Claus himself to read the wishlist letters from local children.

We know kids aren’t able to visit Santa at the mall this year but they still can get their Christmas list into him by mail. Our idea is to collect those letters, pick the best ones and have Santa himself read and respond to the letters live on Sudbury.com.

We haven’t received too many letters yet, but it’s only the first year we’re trying this and we haven’t marketed it that much. However, perhaps you, our Sudbury.com+ Members can help spread the word among your friends and neighbours.

Taking part is easy, kids just have to email their letter to Santa to [email protected].

At the end of December or early in January, we’ll be rolling out stories reviewing the year that was, 2020. We’ll be reviewing the top stories in health, education and city hall, as well as revisiting our most-viewed videos of the year.

It’s a pretty safe bet, the COVID-19 pandemic will have touched nearly every aspect of life.

Look for those stories in a few weeks.
