Original Obituary

March 28 1940 – October 12, 2022

Deanna Grace Aitchison (nee Young), 82, passed away peacefully at St Gabriel’s Villa in Chelmsford, Ontario on October 12, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Devoted wife of 63 years to Colin Aitchison. Cherished mother of Michael (Nancy), Glenn, Gregg (Karen), Kathy (Rick) and Vikki (Bryan). Dear Grandma of Michael (Alisa), Amanda (Matt) and Vannessa (Kristian) and 6 great grandchildren. Beloved daughter of Vincent and Gwen Young (both predeceased) and daughter-in-law to John and Rhoda Aitchison (both predeceased). Dear sister of Leslie Park (Steve) and Heather Young. Aunt to Dayna, Shelley, Lindsey, Tracy, and Bill.

Mom was proud of her family, loved to socialize, was Young at heart, loved to travel, spent endless hours researching genealogy, and kept busy with cross-stitching, knitting and word puzzles. She was genuine, compassionate, and kind.

Deanna spent her formative years in Scarborough where she met her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Colin. Married and whisked off to Sudbury where they raised their 5 children in the Long Lake area. She had worked as an RNA in the Delivery Room at Sudbury General Hospital. Next up, a new adventure in Peterborough where she worked at the Peterborough Clinic and made lifetime friends with co-workers and the Oldtimers soccer group. After retiring, Mom and Dad made their way to Barrie where they enjoyed several years with wonderful friends and neighbours. Later, as residents of Sandy Cove Acres, Mom and Dad enjoyed socializing and continued to travel. They had recently relocated to Lively to be closer to family. They were fortunate to enjoy many trips to the UK and Ireland, the Caribbean and winters in Destin, Florida. Deanna will be forever remembered by friends whose paths she crossed.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Gabriel’s Villa for their compassion and love for Mom while under their care. As per Mom’s wishes, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place and a graveside burial will be held at a later date. In memory of Mom, donations may be made to the ALS Society of Canada or her favourite charity, the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Mom, you will always be in our hearts and forever missed xoxox

Here’s to you, Gracie.

May the road rise to meet you

May the wind be at your back

May the sun shine warm upon your face;

The rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand
