ARCHER, Donald - In loving memory of Donald S. Archer. Mr. Archer died Thursday, March 31, 2011 after a short hospitalization. He leaves saddened his wife Margaret Archer and their daughter Anne Archer. Also surviving him are son in law Fred Mens and grandchildren Aileen, Michael, Elizabeth and Robert. Donald St. Clair Archer was born 95 years ago in the town of Cobalt, the second child of Ross and Edna. Predeceasing him were his siblings John, Paul, Doris and Bob. He was raised in Cobalt and Napanee later attended the UofT (Pharmacy) class of '3T9. After graduation he served in the RCAF as a Flight Officer. Following the war he engaged in a variety of entrepreneurial pursuits, founding a number of businesses some which continue today under different ownership. In 1952 he married Miss Margaret Hamilton. They moved to the new community of Elliot Lake where Don continued his entrepreneurial ways starting a number of ventures including a pharmacy. In the mid sixties the family relocated to Sudbury and opened up a pharmacy and mall, Plaza 69, which was to become the focus of his energy for many years. He remained engaged and active in business and the stock market until his death. Don enjoyed considerable success in business. He was innovative, independent, and industrious, never ostentatious and invariably frugal. He was quick to help others of like mind, often giving younger people an opportunity when others wouldn't. For him every day was a day with new opportunities. He will be remembered by many including countless customers and staff, especially those who worked with him in recent years, in particular his assistant Jiayan Wang. Visitation at JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury on Sunday, April 3rd, 2011 from 2 to 4 P.M. A Christian service will take place Monday, April 4th, 2011 at 1 P.M. at the R. J. Barnard Chapel. Interment in the Stayner Union Cemetery. Rather than flowers the family suggests donations to the Salvation Army of the charity of their choice.
