BAJUS, Maria

April 11, 2011 88

BAJUS, Maria (nee Drofych) - In Loving memory of Maria (nee Drofych) Bajus passed peacefully at home in her 88th year on April 7, 2011. Predeceased by her husband Nicholas (Mykola) in 2002. She is survived and will be sadly missed by her children Darusia (partner David), Olga and Volodymyr as well as friends and relatives. Visitation will be at Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St., Sudbury on Sunday, April 10 2011 from 3 to 5 p.m. Funerals Mass will be held at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 40 Notre Dame Ave, Sudbury on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 10 a.m. Maria saw beauty in all living things. She saw beauty even where others saw only weeds. Warned one day that there was a thistle on her front lawn, she responded: “Oh no! For me that is a beautiful flower.“ As a neighbor once commented to her: “in your eyes every blade of grass is a flower.“ One central phrase idea that ran through her life, an idea she spoke out regularly was “Everything wants to live“, (Vs'o khoche zhyte) Maria Bajus lived that deep reverence for all life, all her life. She would not stamp out an ant or a spider, but gently carry these insects out onto the lawn. She was a delicate and sensitive presence with respect for all life in a world seething in violence. If Maria always had words for the beauty of all living things, her sharp and highly perceptive mind also found just the right words to pierce through pretence and to burst the bubble of pompousness when she came face-to-face with all forms of shallowness. Maria Bajus' thistle flower has closed now. . . For a while. It will open again. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
