We lost our sweet Rose, just two weeks shy of her 86th birthday. Rose’s story began in Warsaw (Levack) Ontario on October 29, 1934. Born the youngest of six to Sam (from Bulgaria) and Mary Einoff (from Ukraine), she married the love of her life, her handsome Manitoba miner, Eugene Barkett on July 17, 1954.Together they created the most beautiful family of Cathy (predeceased July 16, 2006), Joanne Laplante (Camile), Brian and Tracey Serviss (Gary), who they raised in Onaping. After shining in her role as Mom, she was promoted to Granny Rose/Grandma with the arrival of Ryan (Carly), Megan (Tommy), Kelsey (Ash), Sam, and Lauren (Andy). She was predeceased by siblings Anne Cucksey, Sonya Pomarenski, Nellie Stelmakowich, Michael Einoff and Helen Billows. She was the adored Auntie Rosie of many nieces and nephews. She was the most compassionate, caring, and creative little lady around. Her love of crafting and creating has been passed on to her daughters and granddaughters.
A true Ukrainian, special occasions would find Rose in the kitchen stuffing her family favourite pierogies and cabbage rolls. She devoted her life to our family but found time to support causes such as Lupus Ontario where she was a founding member of the Sudbury chapter, and the Arthritis Society.
Dance partners for life, Rose and Gene were the most graceful ballroom dancers, beautiful to watch on the dance floor but you had better get out of their way if a polka came on!!
Later in life Rose discovered she had a lucky streak, often walking away from the slots with a bucket full of coin. She was lucky enough to combine this with another one of her favourite things on three occasions cruising in the Caribbean.
Rose loved spending time on Manitoulin Island with close friends Denise and Dave Organ and Joan and Martin Musson. This summer saw her make new friends, on her back porch, which she took great pleasure in hand feeding several times a day. Pookie, Poopsie, and Shorty will miss her dearly. Dad will make sure they don’t miss their peanuts.
As per Rose’s wishes, a private family graveside burial will be held Thursday, October 22, 2020.
