1950 - 2021

The Bernier family is deeply sadden by the sudden loss of their beloved husband, father and grandfather Mickey Bernier.
Mickey died peacefully at Health Sciences North the morning of Saturday, May 22, 2021 in Sudbury, Ontario at the age of 70.
Mickey is survived by his wife, Penny (nee Powers) and sons Michael (Stephanie) and Robert (Josee); siblings, Wayne (Mari), Dennis (Veronica) and David (Lisa) and his four grandchildren Aiden, Jordyn, Lila and William. He was loved by many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Mickey was born on July 1,1950 in Sudbury Ontario to Florina Bernier. He attended Lockerby Composite School and married Penny Anne Powers, his high school sweetheart in 1972. After moving to Montague street, the couple welcomed two children into their home and Mickey set about teaching them the value of a dollar and the importance of hard work and encouraged them to strive for success.
As an entrepreneur Mickey never had a shortage of ideas from owning an ice delivery business to opening and running Bernier’s Value Mart; from running for Sudbury council to accepting his final position with Pepsi as a district manager for Northern Ontario where he worked for over 18 years and retired in 2005. In that same year, Mickey also opened an artisan bakery in downtown Sudbury.
Mickey was a witty, funny, strong-willed individual who loved spending his summers at his camp on Lake Matagamsi and his winters sitting in his lanai in Seabring Florida. He was passionate about golfing and telling stories which he would share with anyone who would dare to listen. Mickey loved a good debate and often succeeded in the challenge as according to him “Mickey knows”. Above all, family was most important to him and there’s nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with them and his dog Pepper at his beloved camp Tog.
The family will host a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Northeast Cancer Centre. The family would like to thank the health care staff at Health Sciences North for their efforts and dedication. Cremation services provided by Simple Wishes of the North, Sudbury.
