BOYUK, Irene (nee Romanuik) - In loving memory of Irene Boyuk (nee Romanuik) (March 5, 1919 - Dec. 17, 2011) - Behold I send an angel before thee, to keep thee in the way and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. Exodus 22:30 - Living with Christ and the Holy Mother Sandra and Darlene (Halia) announce the passing of their beloved and cherished mother Irene at Health Sciences North. Mom moved from her family home of Krydor, Sask. in 1938 to Sudbury where she found employment as a domestic. She married John Boyuk in 1940 and raised three daughters. For many years she worked as a cook - Chuck's Fish House, Memorial Hospital and U & I Restaurant. She also catered many wedding and funeral dinners. On her arrival to Sudbury, she joined St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church and remained a staunch and dedicated member all her life. Mom was extremely devoted to and involved with her parish church. For several summers, she prepared hearty meals at the children's camp - Villa Maria. A lifelong member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League, she served on the executive as secretary and as president for several terms. In her younger years, she loved to perform with the amateur drama club in the Church auditorium. She sang in the Church choir executing solo parts as well as duets with her sister Theodosia. Mom was a founding member of the Ukrainian Seniors' Centre, serving as secretary on the Centre's first Board of Directors. To the age of 85, Mom continued to volunteer at St. Mary's Church and the Ukrainian Seniors', unquestionably, feeding the Ukrainian community. She was the recipient of two awards for her volunteer work. Mom is predeceased by her husband John (1970), eldest daughter Zoryanna (Zorina) (2008), her parents Stephen and Anna (Saganski) Romanuik and her siblings Peter, Irene (infant), Harry, William, Catherine (Soroka), Mary (Choma), Jean (Hawyryluk/Klutchka), Michael and Theodosia (Pidzamecky). She is survived by her son-in-law Denis Peres, cherished grandmother of Michael Boyuk, Christopher Peres, Gregory Peres, David Peres (Carlin), adopted grandson Mark German, Great Baba to Jonathan and Steven Peres, her 2 special angels Angela and Olivia Titon, and aunt to numerous nephews and nieces. Mom was renowned for baking skills and culinary art. She enjoyed tending her garden, nature and had a great love of books. Our deepest appreciation is extended to Dr. Tenhunen, nursing staff of the Palliative Care Unit and Warmhearts Volunteers for their compassionate concern and care of our mother. Resting at the JACKSON and BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 40 Notre Dame Ave, Sudbury, Tuesday, December 20th, 2011 at 10:30am. Interment in the family plot at the Sudbury Catholic Cemetery. Panakhyda 7pm Monday. (Friends may call 2-4; 6-8pm Monday). In memory of Mom and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Warm Hearts (Palliative Caregivers) Sudbury/Manitoulin or Blue Door Soup Kitchen.
