April 30, 2013 79

BRUSER, Jean Helen - With deepest sorrow the family of Jean Bruser announces her passing on Thursday, April 25th at Maison Vale Hospice in her 79th year. She will be sadly missed by her children Harriet (Paul Orenstein), Louis, Jerrol and Sam (Camille Lavoie), by her beloved grandchildren Max, Gabrielle, Callum, Nicola, Manuela and Jasmin, by her brother Albert Broudy (Rhoda), nephew Harry, nieces Debbie and Sandra, sister Jacquie Neilson (Michael), dear friends Sarah Thomson and Shirley Kiss, and many other friends who she had the pleasure of knowing. Jean was predeceased by her husband Richard in 2009. Jean contributed greatly to her community of Walden as editor and publisher of the Walden Observer for 23 years. For many years she ran a local youth drop-in centre, managed the Copper Cliff Curling Club, became president of the Lively Golf Club, and was very involved with the Lively Ski Club. She also managed the Northern Ontario Industrial Trade Show. Jean was recognized for her years of volunteer service to the Walden Citizen's Police Advisory Committee for the Sudbury Regional Police. In 1993 Jean was awarded the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of Confederation for her significant contribution to the community. Jean had a passion for sports including golf, curling, tennis and bowling. She had a love for antiques and collectibles, which she displayed at her Curious Owl Collectibles shop on Manitoulin Island. She also had a very unique sense of humour as anyone who spent time with her would attest. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Cancer Centre at Health Sciences North, as well as the special care she received at Maison Vale Hospice. There will be no funeral or visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Maison Vale Hospice, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. A celebration of Jean's life will be held at a later date.
