BRYS, Catherine (Cathie) - In loving memory of Catherine “Cathie“ Brys (nee Connor) On Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital. Beloved wife of Bernard Brys (predeceased 2002). Loving mother of Mary-Catherine (Joe) Tremblay of Hanmer, Bernardine and Heather (Ed) Janczyszyn both Winnipeg. Cherished grandmother of Christopher & James and Eric & Jeffrey. Sadly missed by her sisters Jan and Moira Connor in Scotland and Georgina (Ben) MacKay in New Zealand and nieces and nephews in the UK and New Zealand. Predeceased by siblings Jenny, John, George, Nancy (Agnes) and Irene. Catherine was born in Glasgow, Scotland. She was the eldest of 9 children. Cathie completed her nurses training at Ruchill Hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary, and was a Ward Sister at Stobhill Hospital in Glasgow. She worked in nursing for over 10 years. She came to Canada in 1955 to work as a nurse at the Sudbury General Hospital. She married Bernard in 1957, moved to Hanmer where she stayed home to raise her girls. Catherine was a member of St. Kevin's Parish. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, especially tending her roses and along with Bernard, won Best Garden Awards. Mother was an avid reader and knitter. She was well known at Valley Plaza and kept active by mall walking for many years. Catherine's daughters would like to express our sincere gratitude to CCAC, Red Cross support workers and Bayshore nurses who cared for Mom in recent years. The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at the Sudbury Regional Hospital Emergency Dept., Dr. Koka and 5 South for their care and support. A special thanks to Dr. Smith for her compassion. Resting at the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME Hanmer/Capreol Chapel 4605 Michelle Dr., at Hwy 69 N, Hanmer Funeral mass at St. Kevin Church, Val Therese On Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 11 AM Cremation with inurnment at the Valley East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Sudbury Red Cross or the Society of the Little Flowers would be appreciated.
