Mary Buchowski (nee Wisniewski) – December 11, 1931 – June 08, 2023. Beloved wife of 53 years to husband John (predeceased), a dedicated and committed mother and a loving and very proud grandmother, it is with great sorrow that we announce our mother’s passing.  She departed this world with strength, dignity and an unwavering strong opinion on everything.

Mary received so much joy from being with her grandchildren, especially watching them participating in sports such as hockey and soccer and attending multiple school concerts and activities of which there were many!  Nothing made mom happier than making pasta with her secret marinara sauce for her grandkids at family dinners, which her grandchildren would ask for over anything else in the world.

Mary was always very active, enjoying golfing during the summer months with John and curling and going to exercise classes with the “Misfits” exercise group during the winter months.  Mary was also a devout Catholic who attended Christ the King Parish for over 50 years. She could be found at mass on Sunday morning or Saturday evening every week.  She was a past member of the CWL and also assisted with counting the collections after Sunday masses.

Mary began her career at the age of 16, leaving for Toronto to pursue work in the Telegraph office and then eventually coming back to Sudbury to help out with the family as she began working for CP Rail. Once John and Mary started their own family, she stayed home to raise her children and eventually returned to work at the Sudbury Taxation Office on a part-time basis for over 10 years.

Mary is survived by her children Michael (Jennifer Inglis), Randy (Andrea Savage) of Sudbury, and Susan (Craig Partridge) of Toronto. Proud and dedicated “Grandma” to Riley, Taylor, Kathrin, Meghan, Lauren, Maddie, Zachary and Alivia. She is also survived by sister Verna Wisniewski, sister-in-law Cheryl Hill - Wisniewski and many nieces and nephews. Mary is predeceased by her siblings Joe, Lazar, Steve, Anne, Jean, John, Peter, Michael and Caz. She is also predeceased by brother- in-law Steve and sisters-in-law Mary and Helen.

During the last eight months of Mary’s life, she was a resident of St. Joseph’s Villa, and she made a lasting impression on those who worked there.  We would like to sincerely thank the staff at St. Joseph’s Villa for their excellent care and compassion.

Mary was someone who always put her family first and would have given anything to spend another month, week, or hour with them.  She will be sadly missed by all of us and will remain a pillar in our lives and hearts forever.
