It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Mate Bulić at the age of 77, on Saturday, September 23rd, 2023 in Sudbury, Ontario.

He is profoundly missed by his wife of 54 years, Mara (born Beljo). He is joining his beloved son Ante (predeceased October 23rd 2022) in heaven. Loving father of his son Damir Ivan, father-in-law of Silvija, and grandfather of Martin, Viktor, Sofia, Filip, Daniel, Adrian and Katarina. Loving father of daughter Antonia Matija, father-in-law of Alan, and grandfather of Tiana, Daniela and Sandra Jazvac.

Mate was born in Čitluk, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on April 25th, 1946. He grew up in the village of Garišta with his parents, Jozo and Matija (predeceased), sisters Manda (predeceased), Anđelka (predeceased) and brother Vrane. In 1970, he immigrated to Canada with the love of his life Mara and their 2 year old son Ante. They began their new life in Sudbury with Mate working at Falconbridge mine for 30 years. Along with his family, he was involved with the Croatian community and the Croatian Catholic Church Sveti Marko. He volunteered countless hours for the construction of the Croatian Center. He leaves behind many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends with whom he shared a special bond.

He will always be remembered as a generous, hard-working, kind, humble, genuine, honest and caring man. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and love of spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, picking blueberries and hosting gatherings with his wife, family and friends. He always enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren as family meant the world to him. He enjoyed listening to Croatian music, singing in the church choir and singing “Ganga” with his brothers-in-law and closest friends. Laughing with others and telling stories from his life experiences was what he enjoyed most. Above all, his entire life was devoted to sharing every single moment with the love of his life, Mara, who stood by him until the end.

A special thank you to his daughter-in-law Silvija and all of the staff on 4 North, at Health Sciences North who went above and beyond in his care during his final days, where he passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children. The family wishes to thank PSW Ally for the homecare she provided.
