CAMPBELL, John

February 28, 2011 82

CAMPBELL, John J - It is with sadness but a certain sense of relief that we announce the passing of John (Jack) Joseph Campbell, 82 years, in the early hours of Saturday, February 26, 2011 after a long and debilitating illness. The family is extremely grateful for the care he received from the nurses and PSWs at the Sudbury Regional Hospital, Memorial site, and is thankful that he experienced a peaceful, pain-free death. Jack shared a 59-year marriage filled with love and laughter with Gladys (Lennie) Campbell. He was the proud and loving father of Jack Campbell (Jean Harris) of North Bay, Brent Campbell (Lorraine) of Crestwood, Kentucky, and Sandra Campbell (Brian Valin predeceased) of Sudbury. He enjoyed hearing of the accomplishments of his grandchildren: Emily Campbell of North Bay, Mark Campbell (Therese) of Toronto, Craig Campbell of Louisville, Kentucky, Tristan Campbell of Lexington, Kentucky and Patrick McCallum of London, and was happy to have lived to meet his great-grand girls, Layla and Lily of North Bay. Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and May (Dempsey) Campbell, Jack will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Alice Steadman (Cliff Buchanan) of Sudbury and his brother, Ron Campbell (Ann) of Timmins. A favourite uncle to many nieces and nephews, Jack will also be missed by former son-in-law, Robert McCallum of Little Current. Born in Sudbury, Jack was a respected chartered accountant who gave sage advice to clients in both Sudbury and Elliot Lake for 30+ years and was a life member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. An active volunteer for most of his adult life, Jack was one of the youngest presidents of the Rotary Club of Sudbury (1968-69) and a long-time Mason (Lodge No. 658) and Shriner. Known for his quick wit and intellect, Jack was a life-long reader. He did not suffer fools gladly, and believed in the power of common sense to solve any problem. He enjoyed good scotch and a fine cigar and will be missed at family gatherings for many years to come. A celebration of Jack's life will be held on Tuesday, March 1st, 2011 at the JACKSON & BARNARD FUNERAL HOME from 4pm to 7pm. Donations to the Children's Treatment Centre or charity of your choice.
