CARRUTHERS, Joan Anne

April 30, 2010

CARRUTHERS, Joan Anne - The family of Joan Anne Carruthers sadly announces her passing on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by Steve Carruthers, Dr. Chris Carruthers (Calgary), Greg Carruthers (Cindy) and Julie Doughty (John), her sister Barbara Lalonde (Lloyd) plus seven terrific grandchildren: Danielle Carruthers (Calgary), Joel Carruthers (Calgary), Aaron Carruthers (Tabetha), Marc and Haley Carruthers and Tommy and Jenna Doughty, and great granddaughter Mackenzie Carruthers. She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) in 2009, parents Patrick and Alice Lynott, and her older sister Patricia Henry. Joan was born in Ottawa in 1931, the second of three daughters to Alice and Patrick Lynott, and she attended schools in Falconbridge and Sudbury. She was one of the first Laboratory Technologists to graduate of St Joseph Hospital in London. She met Bill Carruthers in 1951 and they married in Garson, Ontario in 1953. The family moved, with Bell Canada, from London, to North Bay, to Sudbury and in 1966 settled in Fort William (Thunder Bay). Joan then began her long career in the Hematology department of McKellar Hospital. Joan enjoyed camping, canoeing, and gardening, and she was an expert seamstress, costumer, knitter, and watercolour painter. She was a loving mother and especially proud of her family, and her calm, compassionate personality endeared her to all who knew her. Special thanks to the staff and her friends at Grandview Lodge. Cremation has taken place and there will be no church service. A memorial celebration will take place at a later date to celebrate the full happy life of this generous, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and faithful friend. We will all miss her so much. On line condolences may be made through www.nwfainc.com
