CHRISTAKOS, Harry Arthur - The family announces with sorrow his peaceful death at the age of 82 years in Sudbury on February 23, 2011, at Memorial Hospital. Beloved husband of Mary Jane (nee Merwin), married September 20, 1958, they celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2008. Dearly cherished father of Demetra Christakos (Toronto), Arthur Christakos of Aurora (wife Cory), Margaret Christakos of Toronto (husband Bryan Gee), and Harry M. Christakos (Toronto). Adored by his dear grandchildren Zephyr, Silas, Clea and Ben. Born December 20, 1928 , in Sudbury ON, to Aristiedes and Demetra Christakos (nee Menexis), Harry Arthur Christakos grew up in an extended Greek family and warmly remembered all his uncles, aunts and cousins, his loving aunt Barbara Argeropoulos (nee Menexis) and cousins John Argeropoulos (wife Mary) and Joyce Matthews (husband Scott) of Marquette, Michigan, uncle Mike of Calgary (and family), and the Booth family of Sudbury. Devoted brother of Anastasia Christakos and dear brother-in-law of Peg and Geale Hewson, Benjamin (Bud) and Diane Merwin, and Miles and Jane Merwin, and uncle to Beth, Ric, Margaret, Ben, Anne Marie, Robert, David and Robertson (and families). He prized his lifelong friendship with Les and Mary Carmichael of Sudbury. He graduated from Sudbury Technical School and attended Queen’s University until the death of his father, returning to Sudbury to take over his father’s business, Art’s Lunch. From 1965 he worked at INCO in Sudbury as a senior geological technician. He was a devoted family man and nourished his family throughout his entire life with unfailing love, radiant smile, kindness and generosity, excellent cooking, and wonderful sense of humour. He was the most reliable dad and loving father-in-law. An avid fisherman, he loved the natural lakes of northern Ontario, and shared that pleasure with his children and grandchildren. He loved to work with his hands and was an accomplished stone and wood worker. Grateful acknowledgement to his wife and his son Harry M. for involved caregiving over the past several years.
