CICCONE, Amalia

May 2, 2011 87

CICCONE, Amalia (Cercone) - In loving memory of Amalia (Cercone) Ciccone 87 years Thursday April 28th, 2011 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital. Beloved wife of 64 years of Giuseppe Ciccone. Loving mother of Angela and Rosaria of Sudbury and Carla (Robert Knutson) of Val Caron. Cherished Nonna of Matthew Knutson (fiancée Michelle Godin) and David Knutson. Dear daughter of Giovanni and Antonietta Cercone both predeceased. Dear sister of Attilio of Welland, predeceased by Rosaria and Alberto. Will also be sadly missed by her in-laws, and many nieces and nephews. Born in Pacentro, Italy, she married Giuseppe in 1947. She came to Canada in 1953 to join her husband to begin a better life for their family. She was a devout Roman Catholic and long time member of St. Anthony's Parish, in younger days a member of the CWL. Amalia actively fought to keep St. Anthony's open when it was on the verge of closing. She maintained a family first priority and a strength of faith and spirituality, saying the rosary daily and viewing mass on TV. She kept a great devotion to St. Anthony, St. Theresa and Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Amalia worked in housekeeping at INCO, the old St. Joseph Hospital and Cambrian College. She took great pride in her work and instilled a strong work ethic in her daughters as well as a caring attitude illustrated by her care of her “special“ daughter Rosie. She loved to embroider, crochet and sew and has left a wonderful legacy in her doilies, bedspreads, tablecloths, sheets, curtains, exceptional dresses, coats and suits. Amalia was a skilled gardener and an excellent cook, who loved preparing preserves and always sending home “care packages“. She created tremendous sandwiches which were the envy of her husband's coworkers. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and workers on 3rd floor Extendicare-York, especially Monique “Monica“ and Colette for their dedication and care, as well as the staff at Sudbury Regional Hospital Emergency for their kindness and compassion.
