Coderre, George

August 12, 2009 79

CODERRE, George Lawrence (“Larry“) - Just days before his 80th birthday, Larry passed away peacefully on Saturday August 8, 2009, with family by his side. He joins Lucille, his beloved wife of more than 52 years, who predeceased him in 2007. Born in Almonte on August 17, 1929 to Michael Coderre and Eliza Fairfield, Larry moved to Sudbury in his twenties, where he began a 37-year career with Inco. He married Lucille Ranger of Ottawa in 1954 and together they lovingly raised six children. Ordained as a Deacon in 1984, Larry served two parishes near Sudbury before he retired from Inco and moved with Lucille to Ottawa. In June of this year, “Deacon Larry“ was delighted when the parishioners he served at St. Bernard church in Blossom Park held a special celebration in honour of the 25th anniversary of his ordination. He was also very proud last fall when he received the honours of the 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus. Passionate about researching his and Lucille's family histories, Larry met many other Coderre and Ranger genealogy buffs through this hobby. He was a loving father to Denise Van Herk (Michael) of Ottawa, Lorraine Baldisera (Mark) of Sudbury, Michelle Munroe (David) of Elliot Lake, Gerry Coderre (Diane) of St. Catharines, Nicole Hoy (Brent) of Wellington, New Zealand, and Rochelle Hatton (Brent) of Lively. He was Grandpa Larry, the much loved “hugging monster“ to his 12 grandchildren, Elyse and Michelle Van Herk, Matthew and Michael Baldisera, Katie (Doug Lariviere), Victoria and Alexander Munroe, Wesley and Melissa Coderre; and Eric, Curtis and Carolyn Hatton. He was the proud great-grandfather of Douglas Munroe Lariviere. Larry is predeceased by his sisters Margaret Piderman and Sister Mary Coderre RHSJ, and by his brothers John, Wilfrid and Frank, as well as his in-laws Dr. Jean-Pierre Piderman, Blanche Coderre, Wilfrid Ranger, Denis Ranger, and Rita Ranger. He will be missed by his in-laws Anita Coderre, Edmond Ranger (Rose), Pauline Charron (Tony), Claude Ranger and Richard Ranger (Pierrette Morissette). Friends and family may call at McEvoy Shields Funeral Home 1411 Hunt Club Rd, (at Albion Rd) on Wednesday August 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday August 13 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Church 1720 St. Bernard Street. Larry felt blessed to receive the very best of care, kindness and support throughout his illness from family and friends and from the professionals and volunteers at the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre, 5 East at the General Hospital, the Hospice at May Court and the local CCAC. Heartfelt thanks to all who helped him during this journey. For those who wish, the family would appreciate donations in Larry's memory to the Hospice at May Court 114 Cameron Avenue, Ottawa K1S 0X1, the St. Bernard Parish building fund (613 738- 1943) or other charity of your choice.
