of

Rita Conaty

(nee Cumiskey)

94 years

It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that the family announces her passing Thursday evening September 1st,2022 at Pioneer Manor, Sudbury

An extraordinary mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Thomas “Tom” Conaty on August 12 ,1988 and survived by her cherished children; Marg, Liz (Michael Fournier), Joe (Michelle) and Andy (Pauline). Always a devoted and selfless “Gramma” to her grandchildren, Samantha (Moe Larocque), Meghan (Nina Jakovljevic), Kathleen (Ryan Weist), Courtney (Jonathan Smagac), Alyssa, Taylor (Christine) and great grandchildren, Oliver, Levi, Reegan, Lillian, Ivy, Callum, Macie, and Isla, who all brought her the greatest joy. Dear daughter of Patrick and Margaret Cumiskey.

Tom and Rita emigrated from Ireland on January 14, 1954 in search of a better life which they found in Canada. Rita was a true Irish Mother, the family Matriarch who lived for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The focus of her life was her family and she was the happiest when in their company. She truly enjoyed hosting Irish family lunches which included 2 oven roasted chickens, and abundance of spuds and a special care package for everyone to take home. In her later years, the seeds of her love came back tenfold especially with the unwavering affection and care she so lovingly received from her two daughters (and guardian angels) Marg and Liz to whom we will be forever grateful. She was also a long standing member of the Irish Heritage Club of Sudbury. The Family would like to Thank Dr. deBlacam who was absolutely outstanding and went above and beyond in his care for Rita over the years. Also a big Thank You to all the fantastic staff at Pioneer Manor (Park Place). The Family will honour her request of cremation. A private family gathering will take place to celebrate the life of a very special gal that will be greatly missed. Donations in Rita’s memory to the Sudbury Food Bank would be greatly appreciated.
