CROUCH, The Reverend Canon

July 16, 2012 88

CROUCH, The Reverend Canon (Algoma) Jack - It is with sad hearts that his family announces the passing of The Reverend Canon (Algoma) Jack Crouch on July 11, 2012. Surrounded by his family, Jack passed after a brief illness at the True Davidson Acres in Toronto. Born John Sydney Crouch on December 27, 1924, the only son of Sydney and Doris Crouch, he was always known as Jack. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Jane and his children Tim, Stephen, Judy and James along with his nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Ordained to the Anglican Church of Canada in 1954, Jack presided over parishes at Dunbarton, Pickering; All Saints, Kingsway; St. Barnabas, Toronto; St. Bedes, Scarborough; Nation Director Youth Ministries, Church House; St. John the Divine, Copper Cliff, Ontario; St. George, Echo Bay, Ontario; St. James, Goulais River, Ontario; along with Summer Ministries at Presqu'ile Provincial Park and Christ Church Gregory, Muskoka. He was appointed Rural Dean to the Sudbury Deanery and was named a Canon of the Cathedral, St. Luke's Cathedral (Diocese of Algoma). Jack retired from active parish ministry to assist Rt. Rev. Leslie Peterson (Algoma) as the Bishop's Facilitator. Jack fully retired in 1994. Prior to his ordination, Jack proudly volunteered to serve in the RCAF and Canadian Army during WWII. Following the war, Jack worked as a draftsman at the Toronto Transit Commission where he helped plan the Yonge Subway line. Called to serve on a different front, Jack attended University of Toronto's Trinity College and Wycliffe College to train for the Priesthood. The family would like to thank everyone at True Davidson Aces LTC for their care, concern and shoulders to cry on. Jack always had a saying or quip like, “Lord love a duck“, “I'm fine, as far as I can tell“ or “Don't take any wooden nickels“ but there is one of his favorites the family would like to leave with everyone. . . “See you around like a donut.“ Services will be held on Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 1170 Tynegrove Road, Mississauga, Ontario (Burnhamthorpe Rd. E, at Golden Orchard Dr.) at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the donations to the Primates World Relief and Development Fund would be appreciated. Donation can be made on-line via the www.canadahelp.org PWRDF page.
