Muriel Justine Dignard (Nee Dionne)

January 5, 1926 – April 2, 2024

Our beautiful Mother Muriel was our heroine. At 98 she continued to live independently and remained fully engaged with her extensive family until her short stay in the hospital.

She loved us and challenged us to be true to ourselves and to love and support each other. She’ll be remembered by all of us for her intelligence, humor, love of books, and the way she helped each of us preserve our uniqueness.

Muriel left us peacefully in the early hours of April 2 nd surrounded by family.  Muriel was born in Quebec in 1926 to Blanche Jodoin and Emiliano Dionne. She is predeceased by her loving husband Gerald Dignard who together; not only raised a large and beautiful family, they also proudly served the region of Sudbury with The Gourmet Restaurant and Catering.

She is also predeceased by her brother Raymond Dionne (Dorothy), and sisters Lise Holloway (Jim) and Suzanne Wolfe. She is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Lucie and Charles Black, Francine Dansereau (Guy, predeceased), Monique and John Burns, Michelle and Sean Derrig, Pierre and Lucie Dionne, and Andree Dionne.

During her last days, Muriel spent time with all of her children, Pierre Dignard (Lilliane), Louise Boake (Robert, deceased), Jo-Anne Harrison (Gary, deceased), Michelle Bourke (James), Francine Dignard (Nicholas), Jacqueline Rocca (Claudio) and her grandchildren Catherine Bell, Rosanne Case (Stephen), Jodie Harrison (Phil), Suzanne Montgomery (Robert), Leslie Wilson (Phill), Jasmine Forde, Chantal St-Martin, and John St. Martin (Lora), and her great grand-children, Sarah and Laura Collie, Kaitlin and Alysha Schneider, Calvin, Char and Christine Case, Samantha, Evan, and Hudson Montgomery, Kallista Comtois, Riley and Avery Wilson, and Dylen, Kylee, and Rowyn Thibeault.

We want to thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Health Sciences North and the Acute and Reactive Care Center for the kindness and care they showed our mother in her final days.
