DOWNEY, Alice Joan (nee Cousineau) - In loving memory of Alice Joan Downey (nee Cousineau), 91 years, peacefully Thursday, September 13, 2012 at the Elizabeth Center, Val Caron. Beloved wife of Joseph Cletus Downey predeceased 2000. Loving mother of Maureen (husband Erroll Kennedy), Sheila (husband Eero Makela) and Daniel Downey. Cherished Grandma of Kari, Sean (Sylvie), Kevin, Ryan (Tara), Eric (Becky), Craig (Chantal) and great grandchildren Elizabeth, Katheryne, Angelique, Beau, Keegan, Luke, Braden, Avery, Egan, Mya, Holly and Quinn. Dear daughter of Philippe and Eva Cousineau predeceased. Dear sister of Conrad Cousineau predeceased (wife Agnes). Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Born in Ottawa, Alice moved to Nakina, attended secondary school and normal school in North Bay. She returned to Nakina to teach and she married in 1947 Joseph Cletus Downey. They moved to Capreol in 1959. She was a supply teacher in Capreol for a few years. She was an excellent educator, a keen bridge player and avid reader. A devout Roman Catholic, she faithfully attended Mass and participated in the parish ministries in Nakina and Capreol. She will be remembered as an articulate and gracious person who defined the word “lady“. She was devoted to her family. The light of her life will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. Resting at the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME Hanmer/Capreol Chapel, 4605 Michelle Dr., Hanmer (Friends may call 2-4; 7-9 p.m. Sunday). Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Peace Church, Capreol Monday, September 17, 2012 at 10 a.m. Interment in the family plot at the Capreol Cemetery. Donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
