In Loving Memory of Stanley Fredrick Drake.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Stanley (Poppy, Grand poppy) Drake of Garson, Ontario at the age of 89.

Stan was born to Florence (née MacLaren) and Earl Drake both predeceased in 1935 in St. Peter’s Harbour, Prince Edward Island. Brother to Irene Cairns (Roy) both predeceased, Vera Ward (Vic) both predeceased, Ruth Stewart (Cecil) both predeceased and Florence Heyden, predeceased (Mike).

Loving Husband of 59 years to Claire (née Moran) and father to Gary Drake (ex-wife, Joanne), Brian Drake (Sophie) and David Drake (Karen). Proud grandfather to Darra Bonden (Chris), Jessica Drake (Bobby Le Bouthillier), Evan Drake (Ashley), Clayton Drake, Cameron Drake (Cortney), Carter Drake (Haley), Cassandra Drake and Alanna Drake. Over the years his family grew with addition of great grandchildren, Isabella, Parker, Jackson, Owen, Logan, Bennett, Maggie, Audrey, and Olivia. Stan leaves behind several nieces and nephews as well.

Stan was a dedicated husband and family man, who always helped where it was needed. He was a “Jack of all Trades” with carpentry, plumbing, electrical, car mechanics, a real “Mr. Fix it”.  He was a huge fan and taxi driver for his children and grandchildren’s sports interests.  As well, he was an avid reader and enjoyed a good crossword puzzle. He was held in high regard by his entire family, and especially by his four sisters in their younger years.

Stan worked at Falconbridge Nickel Mines for 35 years. He started at the Falconbridge Mill and in 1968, transferred to the Strathcona Mill as a supervisor. He retired in 1992 and enjoyed many years of pension.

He was a proud, stoic man who maintained and encouraged a high standard of values and promoted higher education for his three sons. He had a good sense of humour and was well known for his “Poppy Jokes” which live on through his family.  Your work is done, now it’s your time to Rest in Peace.

Charitable donations to either the Northern Cancer Centre or The Canadian Lung Association would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you to those that visited him at Falconbridge Extendicare. Special thanks to Joanne who shared a close relationship with mom and dad. Also, thanks for her care package meals she would provide at his house during frequent visits.

Thank you to the staff of Falconbridge Extendicare for his care. In particular, special thank you to PSW’s Crystal and Monique for their dedicated love and tender care of Stanley (AKA, Stan the man!). Thank you to the staff at Jackson and Barnard as well for their service.
