DURJANCIK, John - On Saturday February 16, 2013 at the age of 89 years, John Durjancik died peacefully at Georgetown Hospital, Georgetown Ontario. Resident of Sudbury for 75 years, he was born in Czechoslovakia in 1923 and immigrated to Sudbury at age 11 with his parents. John was educated at Elm Street School and Sudbury Technical School, and after the war at Ryerson Polytechnic (now Ryerson University) in Toronto. He served in World War II in England, doing radar work with the Canadian contingent of the Czechoslovak Air Force assigned to the British Royal Air Force. Married to British war bride Margaret (née Airey) in 1945, the couple moved to Sudbury's West End where they raised their family, living there until Margaret's death in 2008.John was a draftsman at INCO for 30 years. Music was an integral part of John's life and the violin was his passion from an early age; he played this instrument for over 80 years, performing with various music groups in the Sudbury area.In 2010 he moved to a seniors' residence in Georgetown Ontario. John was predeceased by parents Michal and Gizela and loving wife Margaret. He is survived byhis three children Anne Davidson (Terry Barnes) of Houston Texas, Michael (Carol) of Sydney NS, and Mary Best (Dr. Bill) of Charlottetown PEI, and his nine cherished grandchildren Courtney Davidson, Amanda Davidson, Jillian Douglas (Jeff), Dr. Danielle Douglas, Ian Douglas, Dr. Robert Best, Megan Best, Dr. William Best and David Best. John is missed by his companion of later years Dina Chomyshyn and family Chloe, Dennis, Cameron and Natalie Romanet of Georgetown Ontario. A private funeral service was held Sunday February 17, 2013 at the chapel of Jones Funeral Home, Georgetown Ontario. Cremation with interment in PEI will follow at a later date. Donations to Sudbury Symphony Orchestra are gratefully accepted.
