ELFORD, Mary Alma (nee Butson) - It is with great sorrow the family announces the passing of Mary Alma Elford, in her 101st year, at the IOOF Seniors Residence, on April 13th, 2011. She was predeceased by her parents George and Mary Butson, her husbands Gordon Ireland, Melvyn Osborne and Bert Elford, a grandson Gordon Basso, as well as siblings Gladys Houck, Raymond Butson, Milford Butson, Merle Obrien, Olive Weldon and Nellie Wainwright. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law Verna and Evan Ibbitson, daughters Joyce Munro (Jim deceased), Mary Trusz (Leo deceased), Sandra Basso (Howard), Karen MacDonald (Lorne), and a son Glen (Nancy). She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is lovingly remembered by her extended family, Marie Jay (Bill), Sandra Grant (Roy), Linda Tooley (Don), Douglas Elford (Sherry) and Bruce Elford (Nancy). Alma was a long time member of the Fellowship Club of All Peoples United Church in Sudbury, working tirelessly making pies and serving at suppers and teas. She loved to knit and crochet (Making sweaters, hats, mitts and scarves for her grandchildren). She enjoyed smocking and, as well, made many quilts. Alma worked for many years at the Unemployment Insurance Office, in Sudbury, retiring in 1972, then moved to Barrie where she spent her latter years and was a member and elder of Collier Street United Church. The family will receive friends at the STECKLEY-GOODERHAM FUNERAL HOME, 30 Worsley Street, Barrie, (705) 721-9921, on Friday, April 15th from 9 am until the time of service at 11 o'clock. Interment at Alliston Union Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Collier Street United Church or to the IOOF Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.
