ELSON, Violet Alice “Vi“ (nee Strain) - In Loving Memory of Violet Alice “Vi“ Elson (nee Strain), 91 years, Saturday, December 17th, 2011 at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto. Beloved wife of George Elson predeceased 1987. Loving mother of John, Paul (Dallas) and Thomas (Anne). Cherished grandmother of Matthew and Jason (Kristin), great grandchild Allia and stepgrandchildren David and Mary Jean. Dear daughter of Harvey and Laura (McAlpine) Strain predeceased. Dear sister of John “Jack“ Strain (Anne), Carol Parker and predeceased by Jean, Harvey and Robert. A lifetime resident of Sudbury, Vi married George Elson in 1949. A proud Canadian, she served in the RCAF during World War II overseas. A well-respected and dedicated life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #76 Sudbury, Vi was the first female President of the Branch and actively participated in legion projects and celebrations. She received a Meritorious Service Medal for her excellent efforts. Vi was quick to help others and volunteered for many worthy causes which included Mended Hearts Assoc., Science North and organizer of sending “care“ packages to the troops and recently making sandwiches for the homeless in Toronto. She received the honour of being made a member of the Order of St. George for her good deeds. She was devoted to her family and the light of her life will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. Resting at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury Funeral Service in the R.J. Barnard Chapel Tuesday, December 20th, 2011 at 7:30pm under the auspices of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #76 Sudbury. Cremation with interment in the family plot at Park Lawn Cemetery. Donations to the Legion Poppy Fund would be appreciated. (Friends may call 2-5 and after 6:30pm Tuesday.)
