EVANS, Marguerite

March 11, 2013 86

EVANS, Marguerite Edith (Claridge) - 1927-2013 With her loved ones at her side, our mother passed away on March 7th. She was the loving daughter of Harry and Alice Claridge, and was a proud citizen of Sudbury. She and her great love, Ted Evans (predeceased 1998), raised three children to appreciate the rocks, trees and water of the north. Mom will be dearly missed by her children Doug and his wife Sandie, Peggy and her husband Jim Torrance, and Paul and his wife Jane, and by her cherished grandchildren Sam and Tom of London England; Patrick and Alyson of Oakville; and Benjamin and Peter of Toronto. Mom taught her children and grandchildren the importance of strong family bonds. Mom had a special relationship with her dear sister Janet Birkas and family, and remained close to Ted's family in Canada and the US. Our Mother was a loving, creative and determined woman. She taught six grades in a one- room school house at the age of 18; attended University of Toronto, Victoria College (1949); and taught English in Sudbury before devoting her time to raise three busy children. Mom was active in her community with the Anglican Church Women, events organized by the IODE, and with other local charities. She taught her children and grandchildren the love of music, dancing, how to appreciate Shakespeare and Shaw, and the wonders of Canadian art. She and Ted had an active life in Sudbury and with business groups through the Evans Lumber Company, which was started by her pioneering family in 1896. They enjoyed travelling, entertaining, sailing, golf at the Idylwylde, and bridge games and skiing with their group of life- long friends. We will miss her dearly but her memory lives on. A family visitation will take place on Friday April 26 from 2-5pm and 6-8pm at the Church of the Epiphany. The celebration of Mom's life will be held at the Church of the Epiphany on Saturday April 27th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, Mom would appreciate donations be given to the Church of the Epiphany, 85 Larch St, Sudbury, ON P3E 1B8.
