FLAKE, Lily Mary (nee Kainola) - July 27,1932 - February 5, 2011 - The family announces with sorrow her death at Sudbury Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Wing at the age of 78 years. Beloved wife of Ken Flake predeceased January 21, 2010. Daughter of the late John and Hilma (nee Thompson) Kainola. Loving mother of Sharon Cunningham (Joe Bagatto), Debbie Robb (Lennard Vincent), and Brenda Wiseman (Terry). Cherished grandmother of Melanie Flake (Brad Boland), Shaun Cunningham, Amanda Hallett (Jeff), Ryan, Kyle and Cody Robb, Scott and Kevin Wiseman. Proud great grandmother of Cassie. Lily was the eldest of ten children: Aili (Howard MacDonald), Ed (Carolyn), Marlene (Allan Aysto predeceased), Harold predeceased (Betty), Wayne (Charlotte), May Ann, Martin (Sylvia), Ernie predeceased (Gwen), and Brian (Helen). Sister-in-law and dear friend to Rejeanne Flake and Lois Simard. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. It was at Palm Dairies where she met Ken, “the milkman“, whom she married in 1952. Lily worked most of her life as a bookkeeper until her retirement to Kagawong, Manitoulin Island. Lily had many talents. Sewing, knitting, pie baking and renovating to name just a few. She settled for nothing less than perfection in everything she did. Lily will be remembered as a very proud, strong and courageous woman. She will continue to be an inspiration to us all. Her daughters would like to thank everyone who cared for our mother and supported us in her last weeks. In particular Dr. Knight, Dr. Tenhunen, Dr. Giroux and the wonderful staff on the fourth floor. Cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, February 8, from 7 - 9 p.m. and Wednesday, February 9 after 10:30a.m. followed by a service in the R.J. Barnard Chapel at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Roellchen-Pfohl officiating. Spring interment at Parklawn Cemetery. Donations to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or the Canadian Breast Cancer Society - Sudbury Chapter would be appreciated.
