FLOWERS, Frank H. D.V.M. - In Loving Memory of Frank Flowers D.V.M. The family of Franklin Henry Flowers sorrowfully announces his passing on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital. Frank was born February 18, 1924 in St. Catharines, ON, the son of Arthur John Flowers and Marjorie (Waite) Flowers (predeceased). Frank and his family moved to Copper Cliff in the 30s and he has resided in Sudbury, Ottawa and Whitefish on his beloved farm. In the last year he has resided at Meadowbrook Village and lately at the Elizabeth Centre in Val Caron. Frank was the husband of Patricia B. Flowers, nee Thomson (predeceased) and the father of Lesley (husband Marte Holouka), Margaret (husband Jack Yeo), James, David (wife Izabel), Peter and Christopher. Frank was G.D to Caroline, Megan, and Christian Yeo, Stephanie, Jeffrey, Andrew and Kitt Flowers and G.G.D to Emma Yeo-Blouin. Frank was predeceased by his brothers Jack and Walter Flowers and brother-in-law Howard Thomson and survived by sisters-in-law Eleanor Flowers, Patricia W. Flowers and Mary Thomson. He is survived by his sister Marcia Giguere and cousin Jim Flowers. Uncle Frank will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Frank Flowers graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in 1949 and had a veterinary practice in Sudbury from 1949 - 1977. The second part of his career was with the Canadian Council of Animal Care (an organization that oversees the humane use of animals in research) as Director of Assessments. He retired in 1992. Frank lived a long and useful life. He served his family, his profession and his community and his country. He was a leader in the Northern Ontario Veterinary Association, the Ontario Veterinary Association and the Canadian Veterinary Association. He was part of the Sudbury Cardio-Thoracic Unit when the first coronary-artery by-passes in Canada were perfected. Frank served on the McKim Public School Board and the Sudbury Public School Board from 1954 to 1979. He was active in developing downhill skiing in the north. Frank enjoyed skiing both downhill and cross-country, canoeing, golfing, swimming and dancing. He enjoyed music and had many fun times playing his bass. He served in the Second World War as a pilot officer and flying instructor. He loved flying! He has now “slipped the surly bonds of earth“ is again “dancing the skies on laughter-silvered wings.“ Resting at the JACKSON & BARNARD FUNERAL HOME 233 Larch St. Funeral Service at St. John the Divine Anglican Church Copper Cliff Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 11 am Interment in the Whitefish Cemetery.
