FREELAND, Kenneth Dawson - 80 years Beloved husband of Margaret Jane Freeland (Cox - predeceased), of 73 Mountain Lee Road, North River. It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of their dear Father, Brother, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. Ken passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on the evening of March 5th 2012, due to complications from Kidney Failure. He was born, December 14th 1931, the son of, James Josias Freeland, and Mary Florida Freeland (Bernier), in Capriol, ON. He is survived by son, Terry (Patricia), Winnipeg, daughter Elaine (Russell), Dartmouth, son Michael (Melissa), Truro. Grandchildren, Amanda (Jason), Jennifer, Daniel, Jacob, Sarah, Anna, and great- grandchildren, Hallie, Nylah, Gabriel, and Mitchell. Dear brother of Alex (predeceased) wife Lillian, Wilfred (predeceased) wife Eleanor, Helen Cassell (Albert predeceased), Elmer (predeceased) wife Rita, Fred wife Muriel (both predeceased), Garnet (predeceased), Albert and wife Genevieve (both predeceased), Clarence (predeceased), Elizabeth Barbe (predeceased) husband Albert. Gerald, wife (Marilyn predeceased) and William. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. Early in life Ken worked for CNR, in Capriol. Then Ken joined the R.C.N. in 1952 and served for 5 years. Returned to CNR in Capriol, then in 1959 he re-enlisted in the R.C.N. and made this his career, serving for 25 years. During this time, Ken met and married the love of his life Margaret, in Musquodoboit Valley Nova Scotia. Together they raised their children. After retiring from the Navy, Ken worked for Michelin Tire in New Glasgow, retiring in 1992 after 13 years of service. Ken enjoyed bowling, darts, hunting, fishing and boating with is grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening at the cottage in Dean Settlement. He got great enjoyment in attending various Freeland and Cox family reunions and weddings. Ken also volunteered his driving services for the CNIB on numerous occasions. He was a very dedicated, but frustrated Toronto Maple Leaf fan. Much more pleased with the performance of the Hamilton Tiger Cats. The family has requested family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken's name to the Kidney Foundation, the Canadian Blood Service, and the Colchester Palliative Care Program. No visitation by request. A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday at 2 pm in COLCHESTER COMMUNITY FUNERAL HOME, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Pastor Frank Willoughby officiating.
