GAGNON, Gwen

August 19, 2010 70

GAGNON, Gwen (nee Binnersley) - It is with deep sorrow, the family announces the death of Gwen Gagnon (nee Binnersley), at Sudbury Regional Hospital, on Saturday, August 14, 2010 just before her 71st birthday. Beloved wife of Laurent Gagnon (predeceased), cherished mother of Lianne Gagnon (Prince Rupert, B.C.), Todd Gagnon (Garson) and David Gagnon (Salmon Arm, B.C.). Devoted daughter of Reginald and Kathryn (nee Armstrong) Binnersley both predeceased. Loved sister of Pat Binnersley (Naughton). Allan Binnersley (predeceased) and wife Lynda (Garson), Terry Binnersley (Ottawa) and John Binnersley (Garson). Fond aunt of Katie Binnersley (Ottawa and Toronto). Gwen was fun-loving and loved to jive, go camping in a trailer in the summer, ice- fishing in the winter, and skidooing. At the same time she was a selfless and generous person who always had a kind word for others. For many years, Gwen cared for her husband at home, after he suffered a serious brain injury in 1996, a struggle that undermined her own health. In the same spirit, her son Todd cared for his mother at home, in accordance with her wishes, and at great personal sacrifice, until very near the end. Gwen left a gentle footprint on this earth and was devoted to her family and her community of Garson. We will miss her greatly. To the staff in the emergency room and the Palliative care unit on the sixth floor south at Laurentian Hospital, we extend our heartfelt thanks for your compassionate care of Gwen at the end of her life. We would also like to thank Gwen""s family physician, Dr. Jack Ceaser, who invariably treated Gwen with utmost respect, compassion and professionalism over the years and Lois Muncaster of Bayshore Health Care for her advocacy and support in the last week. According to Gwen""s wishes, there will be no funeral service. “What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal.“ In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brain Injury Association would be appreciated. JACKSON & BARNARD FUNERAL HOME entrusted with arrangements. To light a memorial candle, flowers, donations or messages of condolences available on-line at www.lougheed.org
