In loving memory of John Giroux who passed away peacefully at the Maison McCulloch Hospice on September 9, 2018. He was born on December 3, 1944 in Nova Scotia to John and Evelyn Giroux (predeceased). He was the beloved husband of 30 years to Alice Whiting. Loving father of Brian (Lori) and Kim (Ryan) and loving step-father to Lana (Dan) and Lonnie (Jacquie). Cherished Tampa and grandfather to Melissa (Noah), Kayleigh, Autumn and Hunter. John is survived by his sister Mary Lou (John predeceased) and brothers Ted (Nancy) and Peter (Michel). John as a young man served in the Canadian Armed Forces in New Brunswick and after serving made his way to Sudbury where he joined Falconbridge and worked as a welder until his retirement in 2001. John was an accomplished 5 pin bowler and coached many young people in his early days. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing and after retirement became a snowbird with Alice travelling to Florida for many winters. John will be remembered as a fun-loving individual who thoroughly enjoyed his summers camping and socializing with his family and many friends at Vermillion Lake Park. He will also be remembered as the camp ""Pool guy"" keeping it crystal clean and ready for a generation of camp kids from the late 90's until a few years ago when his health prevented him from continuing. The family would like to thank Doctors Pearce and Singh for their care and extend their most sincere thanks to all the staff at the Hospice who made his remaining time with us peaceful. They would also like to thank all the extended family and friends who lent their support and caring to John and his immediate family during this difficult time. As per John’s wishes there will be no visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Maison McCulloch Hospice. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday September 15th at the Lockerby Legion, 2200 Long Lake Road between 1 - 4 pm. Please join us in celebrating and remembering John. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Sudbury Park Lawn Cremation Service.
