GORDON, Robert Norman - In Loving Memory of Robert Norman Gordon July 29, 1941 - November 2, 2011. 70 years Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at his residence. Beloved husband of Ardeth (nee Buell) Gordon. Loving father of Jennifer Lalonde (Rob), Bill Gordon and Amanda Norquay (Brad). Cherished grandfather of Conorr, Nolan, Rowan and Elliot. Special son in law of Ruth Buell. Predeceased by parents Jim and Margaret Gordon. Dear brother of Jean Ethier (Rene, predeceased), Don Gordon (Kathy), and Catherine Bucar, predeceased. Dear uncle of Carey Rhodes, Trevor Gordon and Angela McMahon. Robert will be remembered by his extended family and Julie De Simone and staff. A well respected educator and community leader, Robert had been a principal with the Sudbury Board of Education retiring in 1996 with 34 years of service. During his teaching career, he was the recipient of several honours. He received the Award of Excellence from the Sudbury Board of Education. The Northern Ontario Principal's Association designated Robert an Honorary Life Member. He also was awarded an Honorary Life Membership from the Ontario Public School Teacher's Federation. He was a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge (Friendship Lodge #691) and the Sudbury Shrine Club having served in many executive positions including worshipful master and district grand master of the lodge and president of the Shrine Club. In younger days, he was an accomplished athlete participating in several sports later he became an enthusiastic fan and avid Maple Leaf supporter. In retirement, health issues slowed his pace but not his passion to participate in family and masonry events. The focus of his life was his family. He took great pride and interest in their activities and accomplishments especially his precious grandchildren. The light of his life will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. Resting at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL 233 Larch St. Funeral Service in the R.J Barnard Chapel Monday, November 7, 2011 at 11 am. Interment in the Civic Cemetery. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m on Sunday under the auspices of the Friendship Lodge AF and AM #691. In lieu of flowers donations to the Shriner's Hospital Fund would be appreciated.
