HALVORSEN, Viola - In loving memory of Viola Halvorsen (nee Anderson), 89 years, away Tuesday morning, February 8th, 2011 at Au Chateau, Sturgeon Falls. Beloved wife of Hendry Halvorsen predeceased 1966. Loving mother of Tim (Marsha) of Sudbury, Mark (Tina) of Kipling, Daniel (Reina) of Sudbury, Peter (Lisa)of Kipling, Colleen (Michael Labine) of Ottawa, Lorna (Phil Beacock) of Port Sydney, Alice (Gerard Leduc) of Verner, June (John Cote) of Kipling, Christine (Alex Kowal) of Lively, late Stephen predeceased (Delores of Brantford), Ruth King ( Wilbert predeceased) and John (Holley) both of Kitchener, Myrna (Bill Carpenter) of Kipling. Will be sadly missed by 35 grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren. Predeceased by parents Louis and Dagny (nee Hansen) Anderson and by brother Alfred Anderson. Viola was born and raised in Kipling. While growing up her Dad was often working away from home for months on end. During these times she helped her mother and younger brother to work the small farm and tend the trap line for food and furs. Walking or cross country skiing was their way of transportation where ever they went. On Christmas Eve 1941 she married Hendry Halvorsen. In 1946 as husband and wife they came to faith, were baptized and faithfully served the Lord all their lives. They joyfully received the blessing of 13 children. Before reaching their silver anniversary, Viola was widowed. Suddenly she was a single mother with 8 children still at home. Through these very difficult years she continued to trust that God would provide for their needs. Viola accomplished much with the grad 8 education she received from the one room school house. She was a founding member of the Kipling Woman's Institute, a life member of the Helping Hand, a member of the Women's united farm club and the agriculture society. She was a 4-H leader for many years and went on to teach quilting through the community college. She was a talented seamstress making a lot of her own clothing, as well as graduation and wedding dresses for others. She always kept her hands busy making quilts, crocheting, needlework or baking bread & buns, pickles, jams and preserves and she simply loved a good game of scrabble. Viola leaves behind so many who loved her and were loved by her. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great & great-great grandmother, aunt and special friend. She touched others lives with her example of faithfulness and encouragement. She had a wonderful sense of humour and a sparkle in her eye that couldn't be matched. She was a pillar of strength, a woman of deep faith and was steadfast in her commitment to the Lord. She was very active in her church and served in many capacities form secretary, treasurer and Sunday school teacher, often driving around the lake picking up the children. It is impossible to outline in a brief space how precious she was to so many. We have been richly blessed to have shared our lives with her. Her door was always open to everyone and the coffee pot was always on. She had a gentle kind nature and a quiet wisdom. Thank you to the staff of Au Chateau and the West Nipissing General Hospital for their personal and compassionate care. A special word of thanks to Dr. Anawati and Dr. Behamdouni for the exceptional love and care they provided to Viola over the years.
