In loving memory of Ielleen Shirley Harper (nee Fraser) of Sudbury, Ontario, age 91 passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 28th, 2023 at the Maison McCulloch Hospice after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, on July 20th, 1931 to Charlie and Mary Fraser (nee Chaput) both predeceased.

Beloved wife of Don Harper predeceased. Loving mother of Beverly Harper of Sudbury, Shirley Ferguson (Paul) of Sudbury, and son George (Kimberly) of Calgary. Grandmother of Jessi Millan (Steve) of Ottawa, Jason Millan of Whistler, Tara Gordon (Ian) of Calgary, Erin Willis (Andrew) of Comox, and Kris Ferguson (Kendra) of Sudbury, and great grandmother of 11. Ielleen was predeceased by her sisters and their spouses, Marie Weir (Frank), Melba Biondi, Doris Theoret (Rollie), Joyce Larocque (Clayton), brother Jerry Fraser (Lenore also predeceased). She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews, family, and friends.

Everyone who knew Ielleen felt her kind and sweet disposition. She worked hard raising her three children and as a RN at the Sudbury General Hospital. Ielleen enjoyed playing Cribbage, Quiddler, and multiple other card games. She was very adept at playing and was very difficult to beat. She was an avid reader, and spent many hours enjoying the story lines of a new book. Ielleen was an exceptional cook and made the best blueberry pies in the world. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.

The family sincerely thanks the Alzheimer Society of Sudbury, the doctors, nurses, and staff of 4-North at Health Sciences North, and the team of professionals at the Maison McCulloch Hospice for their compassionate care of Ielleen as she prepared for her final journey. We also thank our family and friends for their support and prayers during this difficult time.

A special thank you to Bev who acted as her mother’s caregiver for many years and was devoted to her in every way possible. Ielleen can truly rest in peace knowing she was well taken care of and loved by all.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society Sudbury/Manitoulin or the Maison McCulloch Hospice.

Funeral service in the R.J. Barnard Chapel, Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home 233 Larch Street Sudbury on Friday, June 2nd, 2023 at 2 pm. Family and friends may gather after 12 noon on Friday.
