HOLMES, Milton - Peacefully surrounded by his loving family, at the Sudbury Regional Hospital, on Thursday evening, February 10th, 2011. Milton John Holmes, of Owen Sound, in his 81st year. Beloved husband of the late Yvonne Holmes (nee Shouldice). Loving father of Michael Holmes and his wife, Lori, of Welland and Rebecca Holmes, of Sudbury and father-in-law of Dinah Holmes and Ann Cunningham. Proud grandfather of Jay Holmes and his wife, Nathasha MacDonald, of Ottawa and Julie Holmes, of Hamilton. Milt will also be missed by his friend, Charlie Brough, of Owen Sound and his sister-in-law, Ruby Holmes, of Burlington. Predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth Holmes-Given and John Holmes; his step-father, Jack Given; his brother, Elmer Holmes. Milton was born in Lion's Head in 1930. He married Yvonne Shouldice in 1949 and was dearly devoted to his family. He worked as a jeweler in Owen Sound for many years until his retirement in 2005. He really enjoyed spending time with friends over coffee at Tim Horton's and spending time in his bush lot. Milt was a member of the Owen Sound Classic Car Club, the Owen Sound Barnstormers and the Salvation Army of Owen Sound. Milt was a wonderful role model for his family and leaves behind a wonderful legacy of music, photography, dancing, an appreciation for old cars and the outdoors as well as many memories that will be cherished for many years to come. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 250 - 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K - 3X8 (519-376- 7492) on Monday from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service for Milton Holmes will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, February 15th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Major Grace Young officiating.
