HONKANIEMI, Maila Helena (nee Wallenius) - In Loving Memory of Maila Helena Honkaniemi (nee Wallenius), Monday, October 22nd, 2012 at Finlandia Village, Sudbury. Wife of Veikko Honkaniemi (predeceased 1985). Loving mother of Paula Kankaanpaa (Mauri deceased), Hilkka Nykanen (Olavi) and Tiina Koskela. Cherished grandmother of Anita Anderson (Mike), Mark Kankaanpaa, Krista Ziegler (Howie), Tina Duncan (John), Jim Nykanen, Mika Koskela (Leane), Kari Koskela (Amanda), Erik Koskela (Channy) and great grandmother of Kai Duncan, Nina and Thomas Anderson, Ava and Ian Ziegler, Ella and Kai Koskela. Dear sister of Kaarina Hytti (Sepe). Predeceased by sister Aini Koovisk, brothers Olavi and Jussi (Irene). Survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada and Finland. Born in Lappajarvi, Finland she came to Canada in 1957. Maila was a long time member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir for over 30 years. A member of the ladies auxiliary of the Sudbury Finnish Rest Home Society. She was a talented knitter, weaver, sewer and baker. Her creations are cherished by her family. She used these skills to assist Finlandia Village and St. Matthew's Church with their ministries and programs. Maila will be remembered as a modest person who was devoted to her loving family. The family expresses their appreciation to Dr. G. Bakker, staff at the Hoivakoti Nursing Home (Finlandia Village) especially Tina, Amanda, Roni and Ann for their excellent care and support. Resting at the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME, 252 Regent Street at Hazel Street. (Friends may call 2-5; 7-9 p.m. Thursday only).  Funeral Service in St. Matthew's Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church, 264 MacKenzie Street, Sudbury Friday, October 26th, 2012 at 11 a.m. Interment in the family plot at Park Lawn Cemetery.
