JARRETT, Jean

June 9, 2011 92

JARRETT, Jean Margaret (Woods) - passed away peacefully on June 8, surrounded by the love of her family, at the Sudbury Regional Hospital at the age of 92. Jean's birth on January 22, 1919 to Arthur and Margaret Woods marked an era of dance classes, taffy-pulling parties, sleigh rides and cotillions unique to the heyday of Sudbury. It was at one of these social gatherings that the brunette with the bright blue eyes and trim ankles caught the eye of an RCAF pilot who was quick to propose. Jean and Harvey were married on January 29, 1943 while Harvey served in the RCAF. After building a home together on Van Horne Street, the Jarretts enjoyed an active social life in the community and as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Jean enjoyed every part of being a mother to Terry (predeceased) and Brian, and mother-in-law to Marilyn and Michal. Her most joyous role was that of grandmother - Nana - to seven grandchildren: Jodie, Tamara, Darcie, Chera, Darin, Jamie and Heidi. Jean was the type of grandmother who not only gave everyone their favourite treats but who took an active part in their games - whether it was making clay pots by the lake or turning cartwheels across the lawn. As the children grew up, Nana was there with a sympathetic ear and to provide advice. Jean was delighted with the growing size of the family when great grandchildren began to arrive. With the births of Jaina, Carli, Alexander, Ryan, Luke, Tyler, Olivia, Malachi, Aidan, Paige, Lyda, Terrance, Quinlan and (on June 5) Ellie, the size of Nana's heart grew to provide an equal share of love for everyone. With her ready smile and arms open wide for hugs, Nana, as she was affectionately known to all, will be missed. The Jarrett family wishes to thank the staff of Finlandia Village and the 5th floor nursing staff at the SRH for the compassion and many kindnesses shown to Nana and her family. A private family memorial will be held to commemorate the life of Jean Jarrett. Donations to the CNIB would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
