JOHNSON, Frederick James - 1920 - 2010 - In loving memory of Frederick James Johnson, who passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto on Tuesday September 21, 2010. Fred Johnson was born in Parry Sound, March 27, 1920 and moved with his parents William and Florence Johnson, to Capreol later the same year. He attended Capreol Public School and Capreol High School. He went to Queen""s University 1939 to 1941. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy, and was stores Petty Officer 1941 to 1945. He was on the frigate, Carl Place at the end of the war. After the war he returned to Queens, and received his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering in 1949. He was employed by Canadian National Railways from 1949 to 1980. He married Christine Balmer in 1951. He was a life time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 179, Capreol and attended Capreol Baptist Church. He played piano and violin by ear. He moved to Whitby in 2006 and to Sunnybrook care for aged Veterans in 2007. Thank you to the caring staff in the Veteran""s Wing at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre. He was predeceased by his wife, Christine, his brothers George and Gordon and his sister, Dorothy Archer. He will be missed by his sister Florence Slaughter of Capreol. Dear father of Patricia Johnson, (Lindsay Watt) of Toronto and Barbara Carisse, (McGregor Hall) of Whitby. Proud grandfather of Laura Watt, (Ryan Randall) of Toronto, Ian Watt, of Elora, Douglas and Patrick Watt of Toronto, Russell Carisse, (Iris Carisse), Anna Samulak, (Jefferey Thompson) of Toronto, Charlene and Thomas Hall of Whitby, Great Grandfather of Byron and Audrey Carisse and Rebecca Randall, of Toronto and uncle of many nephews and nieces. Friends will be received at the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME Hanmer/Capreol Chapel 4605 Michelle Dr. in Hanmer on Friday, September 24, 7 to 9 pm. Legion Service Friday 7 P.M. under the Auspices of Branch #179 Capreol. Service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Capreol, Saturday, September 25, at 1:30 pm. If desired donations to the Capreol Legion or Capreol Baptist Church would be appreciated by the family.
