KANGAS, Aulis - In loving memory of Aulis Kangas who passed away peacefully at home, as he wished, on May 23rd, 2010 at the age of 82. Survived by his loving wife, Shirley (Matson) and adored father of Allan (Sue) of B.C., Liisa (Art) of Lively and David of Sudbury. Dear brother of Veikko (Kati) of Toronto and Matti (Roberta) of Cambridge. Son of the late Jussi and Saima Kangas and predeceased by sister Vappu. Very proud grandfather of Erika, Erin, Christopher and Chelsey. Aulis was born in Kannus, Finland and immigrated to Canada in 1951. In his younger years, he was an avid skier who won numerous national awards and medals. Aulis owned and operated a successful mining company and was recognized for his involvement in the local Finnish community. He was instrumental in the creation of the Kokkala/Sudbury sister city project. Later in life, Aulis discovered the sport of golf and treasured the many friends he met while out on the course. Aulis will be remembered as a strong, hard-working community member full of “SISU“ who had an enthusiasm for life, people, sports and the outdoors. His presence will be greatly missed by his wife of 53 years, his children, grandchildren, and all his other family and friends. Funeral Service In the LOUGHEED FUNERAL HOME, 252 Regent St. at Hazel St. Thursday, May 27th, 2010 at 11:30am. Cremation in the Park Lawn Crematorium. Donations to the Diabetic Association or St. Matthew's Church would be appreciated. (Friends may call 2-5 and 7-9pm Wednesday).
