In Loving Memory of Mark Antero Kankaanpaa

March 23, 1972 ~ July 28, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mark at Health Sciences North on July 28th, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. Loving son of Paula & Mauri (predeceased) Kankaanpaa. Dearest brother of Anita (Mike) Anderson. He was the cherished uncle of Nina and Thomas. Grandson of Maila and Veikko Honkaniemi and Vieno and Antero Kankaanpaa & Raija Kankaanpaa (all predeceased). Mark will be missed by his aunts and uncles; Tiina Koskela, Hilkka (predeceased) and Olavi Nykanen & Leila and Olli Hamalainen of Florida and Matti Kankaanpaa (predeceased). Mark was the beloved cousin ‘Unk’ to Krista, Tina, Jim, Mika, Kari, Erik, and Kari (predeceased).

Mark was a jack of all trades working in both construction & small engine repair locally and in British Columbia. Mark then switched professions, completing his truck driver training and worked with Manitoulin Transport. For the last 20 years, Mark had been a dedicated employee of William Day Construction. He took pride in being the guy they could always count on.

Mark loved the outdoors. He enjoyed many adventures with friends fishing, hunting & snowmobiling. Mark’s favorite place was camp where he looked forward to spending time with his niece & nephew whom he adored and spoiled rotten. Uncle Mark enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors, knowledge of music and imparting his life advice.

Mark was a quiet man with a huge heart who loved his family and friends. He would give them the shirt off his back, never asking for anything in return.

He will leave a hole in the hearts of many. He will not be forgotten.
