KAUKINEN, (Ena) Ruth - A resident of Southwind Retirement Residence of Sudbury, Ontario died Saturday, October 2nd, 2010 at Sudbury Regional Hospital after failing health. Daughter of Sam and Mary Reid, Ruth was born on August 27th, 1921 in Melville Saskatchewan. She was the beloved wife of Dr. Albert Kaukinen predeceased. Loving mother of Maureen of Toronto, Karen of Sudbury, David and his wife Sue of Vancouver. Loving grandmother of Kerry and John of Vancouver. Beloved sister of Mary (Hugh Buchanan), Anne, Tom (Bernice), Edith (Don Price) all predeceased and Elsie (Dick Rae) of Vancouver. She was special aunt to Marilyn Fox-Reid of Dundurn Saskatchewan and many nieces and nephews in Thunder Bay and beyond. Ruth left the Prairies for Toronto to become an R.N. at Toronto Western Hospital. She left private duty nursing and moved to Sudbury when Al set up his dental practice. Ruth was an active community member who volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, Wembley Home and School Association, the Sudbury Memorial Hospital, the Canadian Red Cross and St. Andrews"" United Church. She enjoyed sports, whether acquacise, skating, golf or gardening. Her bridge partners and the Class of ""43, Toronto Western Hospital Alumni were long-time friends. She was proud to have been a breast cancer survivor for 21 years. Resting at the JACKSON & BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St. Sudbury. Funeral Service in the R.J. Barnard Chapel Friday, October 8th, 2010 at 2 P.M. Interment in the Park Lawn Cemetery.
