KELLY, Glen

November 15, 2011 64

KELLY, Glen Joseph - In Loving Memory of Glen Joseph Kelly 64 years. Wednesday, November 9th, 2011 at his residence. Beloved son of James and Lola (Sullivan) Kelly predeceased. Loving husband of Isbelis Lopez Ramoz and sadly missed by her daughter Jennifer. Lovingly remembered by many cousins and their families. He will be sadly missed by colleagues and friends. Mr. Glen Kelly, for many years was a librarian at Laurentian University, Sudbury, Ontario, died suddenly in his sleep early in November. Mr. Kelly made important contributions within the university in the area of librarianship in general and especially in preserving and organizing information on mining in Ontario over the last Century. In his later career, and on retirement, Glen became involved in overseas projects where his passion for “virtual” libraries bore fruit and catalyzed the UPCD Laurentian University partnership with DR-Congo. He was instrumental in DR-Congo in setting up systems both in Kinshasa and in remote rural areas that allowed graduate students to pursue research degrees that were all but impossible before his arrival. Their speedy access to timely information from Laurentian University, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and commercial sources removed a major hurdle from their studies. His generosity toward the most needy specially in the DR-Congo made him a true humanitarian. Glen was also active in Madagascar in the area of public health. His many colleagues at home and overseas will mourn Glen’s untimely departure. Memorial Visitation at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St., Sudbury, 2-5; 7-9 Thursday. Parish Prayers 3 p.m. Thursday. Memorial Mass in Christ the King Church, 30 Beech St., Sudbury, Friday, November 18th, 2011 at 10 a.m. Cremation with entombment in the Park Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Glen’s Charitable Activities in DR-Congo, c/o Laurentian University would be appreciated. (Friends may gather at the Church after 9:45 a.m. Friday)
